The Scout Group

The 17th West Lothian Scout Group have four Sections, the Beaver Scouts (6-8 years), the Cub Scouts (8-10 years), Scouts (10-14 years) and Explorer Scouts (14-18 years).  The Group is sponsored by the St John Cantius & St Nicholas R.C. church but we are an ecumenical group and we invite all members of the Broxburn community (girls and boys) to join our group.

We meet at the Canon-Hoban hall beside the church, On Monday the Beavers (6.15pm to 7.15pm) and Cubs (7.30pm to 8.45pm) meet while the Scouts (7.00pm to 9.00pm) and Explorers (7.30pm to 9.30pm) meet on Fridays.

Our aim in scouting is to develop scouts mentally, physically, socially and spiritually so they can take a constructive place in society.  To achieve this we use a progressive training programme full of adventure, community, crafts, beliefs and environmental disciplines.  Camping and outdoors are a big part of our programme and above all we do have fun.  The Explorers also get a change to do the Duke of Edinburgh Award as well.

Our past activities have included camps, hikes, football, go-karting, ten pin bowling and many more! In 2005 we had 34 scouts from Denmark in Scotland and had a great time hosting them then in 2007 we went to Denmark on a return trip.  We have also been to Northern Ireland, North Wales, Arran and many campsites around Scotland.

If you want to come along and join in the experience of scouting please do!  We need  leaders, section helpers and members of the Executive Committee as well as young people for the sections.  So please contact the Group Scout Leader, Philip on 07785 525 466 or check out our web site at www.17thbroxburnscoutgroup.co.uk.

Yours in Scouting
